(More customer reviews)First of all, I've been incredibly excited all week waiting for this purchase to come through. I'm really into antique-looking jewelry and I love lockets, and I rather naively thought that for this price I must be getting something really special... so imagine my horror when I finally open the package and this dreadfully blinged-out piece of crap falls into my hand!! Like seriously, it looks like it came out of a Happy Meal. I always go into denial when things don't meet my expectations, but this was so bad that I was legitimately upset.
Failing to find a way to return it but not giving up, I looked for the potential in this piece of jewelry. First of all, it seems to be a real metal, not plastic (it said "brass-tone" so I wasn't expecting solid gold or anything, but by the nature of the design it's rather on the lighter side.) The chain had to go; it was pretty easy to twist off the links connecting it to the locket. Next, the locket needed to be transformed so I'd stop expecting Cracker Jack crumbs to fall out of it, so I mixed up some plain black acrylic paint that I had with some metallic copper paint and buffed the whole thing down with a cotton ball. And if you're into antique finishes like I am, I have got to say that the result is FANTASTIC! You'd never know the ugly that lurks beneath. All it needed was a darker tone in the grooves of the design; it honestly adds like a pound of visual weight to this thing and it looks great hanging from a plain black ribbon!
So my final warning to you all is that, price aside, there's definitely the raw material here to get a fine-looking piece of jewelry with minimal effort, but if you can find exactly what you want elsewhere then go for that. But at least now I do have the locket I was hoping for!
