(More customer reviews)This locket opens like a book, as opposed to some which "swivel" out like a pocket knife. Yes, it's sterling silver, and you're paying a premium for the novelty of having 4 pictures in this locket. I personally like the chain (others don't), because it is sturdier than your standard necklace. This is important, because you'll be pulling at it to show off your pictures. I'll list some cons, then get to pointers on how to install your pics:
- The "outer pages" are very unforgiving with your pictures. Other lockets have an overhang frame, which allows you to hide your picture edges underneath. With the outer pics, the edges are completely visible.
- You have to be very careful when opening. You've got 2 "clips", since there's a middle page here.
- The picture openings could be bigger.
- Inserting the "inner" pictures was a bit difficult.
* Print 2 of each picture you're about to cut. I had 3 "oopses" out of the 4 pics I installed.
* Installing the outer pics- I would start by popping out the plastic cover. Use it as a stencil to draw around the pics you're about to cut. You'll end up shaving each down slightly to get them to fit. Get rid of the blue cardboard place-holder. Your pic will fit much better without it.
* Installing the inner pics- The idea here is to place 2 pics back-2-back in the inner page. This was very challenging. Once again, get rid of the blue placeholders. I would have loved to keep them, because they would help hide my imperfect edges.
* I couldn't install the inner pics without CAREFULLY widening the opening of the inner page. Don't get crazy here. You'll make a permanent ding in the frame if you bend it.
* I ended up gluing the inner pics together. Whenever I made adjustments to one, the other would shift. So just glue them together (facing outward of course). It will make your life easier.
